A mission-driven organization in the education and nonprofit space is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accountant to join their team on a temp-to-hire basis. This role plays a key part in supporting the organization's financial operations, compliance, and reporting needs. Key Responsibilities:Handle monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting functions, including journal entries, reconciliations, fixed asset tracking, and cash flow analysis.
Assist in the preparation and review of organizational budgets; provide ongoing budget tracking and reporting for internal stakeholders.
Reconcile bank accounts and key balance sheet items to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data.
Prepare financial documentation and reports required by federal, state, and local regulatory bodies.
Utilize the organization's financial software to record entries, analyze general ledger activity, and generate customized financial reports.
Support audit readiness and assist with documentation and coordination during external audits.
Contribute to ad hoc projects and process improvement initiatives as needed.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field (required).
Prior experience in nonprofit or education sectors is a plus but not mandatory.
Solid understanding of GAAP and standard accounting principles.
Proficiency with accounting systems and intermediate Excel skills.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
