MSAT Scientist / Senior Scientist – Viral Vectors

Location: Houston, TX | Focus: Biologics, GMP, Tech Transfer

A leading biologics manufacturer is seeking an experienced MSAT Scientist or Senior Scientist to support the transfer and execution of viral vector manufacturing processes into GMP operations. This individual will collaborate cross-functionally and directly with external clients to ensure robust, scalable, and compliant bioprocesses.

The successful candidate will play a key role in process integration, campaign oversight, deviation investigations, and continuous improvement efforts across upstream and downstream manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the transfer of viral vector manufacturing processes, including buffer/media production, cell culture, harvest, purification, and final drug product filling.
  • Execute technology transfers from internal development teams or external partners in compliance with GMP requirements.
  • Manage project timelines, assess risks, and escalate issues to leadership or project management as needed.
  • Participate in new product introductions (NPI), troubleshoot manufacturing deviations, and ensure alignment with GMP standards.
  • Contribute to the development of process documentation including process flow diagrams, bills of materials, and material assessments.
  • Apply root cause analysis and risk assessment tools to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a technical point-of-contact during manufacturing campaigns, with increasing levels of autonomy depending on seniority.

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in bioprocessing or related field.
  • Strong working knowledge of cell biology, bioreactor operations, aseptic processing, filtration, and chromatography.
  • Experience with sterile processing and/or filling operations is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and communicate solutions clearly.
  • Familiarity with root cause and risk analysis methodologies (e.g., Five Why, FMEA, DMAIC, HAZOP).
  • Prior experience managing or supporting cross-functional projects within a GMP environment.
